Huggins Law Firm: 2021 in Review
By Michael D. Turner, Esq.
As 2021 draws to a close, all of us at Huggins Law wanted to thank those who have trusted us with insurance claims. We have worked hard to advance the rights of policyholders, contractors, and public adjusters across the state of Georgia, and to fight insurance carriers over their bad faith denial of claims. As we wrap up this year, we want to share our accomplishments and let everyone know what we have been up to.
In 2021, Huggins Law attorneys assisted in recovering tens of millions of dollars for clients. These settlements resulted in hundreds of roof replacements, numerous reconstructed homes, restoration of personal property, indemnity for fire losses, and much more. In disputes both large and small, we helped hundreds of policyholders to obtain resolutions for covered damages that their insurance carriers had otherwise refused to pay.
Of course, our work didn’t stop there. Huggins Law attorneys fought in both state and federal courts to obtain judicial orders that were beneficial to insureds. The orders we obtained affected a broad range of issues in the insurance industry and allowed our clients to recover more money by extending policy coverages, supplanting certain endorsements, and by enforcing the sequence of discovery in bad faith litigation. We even obtained an order which required an insurance company to pay our attorney’s fees for violations of court procedures, which led to a significant change in how that company adjusts claims in Georgia.
Outside of the courtroom, Huggins Law fought for policyholders and insureds at Georgia’s Capitol to protect their rights in light of new, pending legislation. As part of our out-of-court advocacy for our clients, we consistently met with the Department of Insurance to ensure policyholders have a voice in an insurer-friendly state. We also used these opportunities to express our concerns over the behaviors of insurance companies in Georgia.
This year has been a great year for Huggins Law and for the many insureds who we had the honor to represent. However, the fight is not over yet. Next year will likely bring closure to some ongoing battles over hot topics in our industry, but there will also be new conflicts brought to the forefront of the industry in our state.
Huggins Law has a lot of exciting things planned for the new year, including a big announcement in January. We can’t wait to share the news with everyone!
Until then, however, we want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year. We’ll see you in 2022!
